Acoustic Personal Monitor™ (or APM™) is a revolutionary performance and practicing tool for all brasswind players. With APM™ your ensemble and solo playing will take a giant leap forward.
The Acoustic Personal Monitor™ is simply an 1/8" PVC clear medical tube, with a flared end, which collects the sound deep inside the bell. The tube extends from inside the bell and travels to the bead and bends an abrupt 180º to the outside of the horn. This sharp bending of the tube is held in place by a special handmade clip which is amalgamated to the tube and holds the whole thing to the bell. Small brass and trombones have an added clip to help manage the tubing. The end of the tube is capped with a triple-flanged earbud. This special earbud affectively blocks most outside sound allowing only the notes from your horn. The triple-flanged earbud is also used as a volume control. Louder- push it further in the ear canal. Softer- pull it out a bit. It is very easy to dynamically balance your APM™. The tube is very light and not very obvious.
The purpose of the APM™ is to hear yourself perfectly with one ear and hear the band or ensemble with the other ear.
When to use the APM™:
• ON STAGE - On a loud stage you can now easily isolate the notes coming from your horn. Even with active on stage monitors, it is hard to hear yourself over the rest of the horn section. Now you can hear yourself with APM™ and our comfortable triple-flanged earbud and hear the monitor and the rest of the band with the other ear.
• HIGH REVERB - It is next to impossible to hear yourself in high reverb rehearsal or performance venues. With APM™ you hear yourself perfectly while locking out some of the room's reverb. Acoustic Personal Monitor™ helps solve overblowing problems. Most musicians overblow in a futile attempt to hear themselves over the noise. If most of the musicians are using APM™, the problem is solved.
• PRACTICE - With APM™, it sounds like your horn's sound is in your mind, not in your ears. Hearing your horn in this way is a pleasant and rewarding experience.
• QUIET PRACTICE SESSION - Use APM™ along with one of the great practice mutes which are on the market. APM's sound sampler, deep inside the bell, catches the sound before the effect of the mute. As long as the APM™ tube isn't crushed, you have full volume going to your ear while still keeping your practice environment quiet.
• HEARING PROBLEMS - Don't let progressive hearing loss keep you from being a valuable member of the band. Hearing impairment usually leads to overblowing problems.
