Update for the Summer of 2011
The incredible Wycliffe Gordon Hybrid trombone to tumpet mouthpiece is in production. Quality brass alloy with pure silver plating. Wycliffe plays a gold plated version on his Yamaha trumpet when he's not on his trombone. The gold (24-karat) version can be ordered now and shipped in August. These pieces work very well. Click
We've had quit a few Chasons Hybrid (with trumpet, cornet, flugel and horn backbores) sold and have started to sell the Wycliffe model. They are now backordered because there is a maintenance issue at the factory where we have our pieces plated. We will fill your order as fast as we possibly can. Take a look at the pantented OcToBrass™ and the patent pending Acoustic Personal Monitor™. Great products at great prices. We have a great relationship with Wycliffe Gordon and Peter Pickett at Pickett Brass. Peter builds our pieces. Incredible workmanship. Update
We are working with Wycliffe Gordon to introduce a new one-piece hybrid mouthpiece. Very exciting!
We are going to start selling again (soon) the French horn backbore for educators who need to demo for the section a horn phrase. The tone isn't quite right, but nobody seems to be complaining. If you don't like it send it back and receive a refund. We had a customer who recently purchased both the polycarbonate and aluminum OcToBrass. One he keeps at the office. He says he enjoys them. Keep your chops up and greatly expand your range. Buy your OcToBrass. I hope and pray all is going well with you. Trombone Hybrid Crossover Mouthpieces are on sale now. The finished trombone top with the screw-in trumpet and cornet backbores are for sale. Click here to purchase. These Hybrid mouthpieces are beautiful. Order yours today. We have in stock the tops and the trumpet and cornet backbores. The flugelhorn backbore will be ready for sale in two to three weeks. The trombone to French horn backbore will not work with this configuration. After much experimentation we ended up with a mouthpiece which played in tune and had a nice sound, but not the deep full horn sound which one would expect. I have a plan (down the road) for a one-piece trombone to horn mouthpiece. Stay tuned.Backbores for the Hybrid Crossover Mouthpiece Our latest prototype for the flugelhorn backbore is a success. It sounds fine. I'm so pleased! I've done some preliminary testing on the F. horn backbore and it looks promising. I have an appointment this Tuesday with a French horn teacher for final evaluation. At this point the trumpet and cornet backbores and our special mouthpiece top is in production. The flugelhorn and F. horn backbores are right around the corner.Leather Pouches for the Acoustic Personal Monitor and Chasons Hybrid Mouthpieces ready to ship. Our genuine leather pouches for the Acoustic Personal Monitor™ have come in and are ready to ship. They are beautiful. This is the perfect way to store your APM™ in your gig bag. You will always have your APM™ ready to install on your horn when you find yourself in that difficult rehearsal or performance venue. These will sell for $10 and as a discounted option when you purchase the APM™. The Chasons Hybrid Crossover mouthpiece will be ready to ship in a few days. Pictured is the special trombone/euphonium top with a cornet backbore. The tops and the trumpet and cornet backbores are being "silvered" this week. We are still refining and testing the flugelhorn and horn backbores and believe they will be available in September. Now a trombone/euphonium/tuba player can double on a high brass instrument. I've been playing my cornet with a Chasons Hybrid Crossover top with a cornet backbore. It is so much fun and seems to actually help my trombone playing. Give me a call at Chasons Music if you have any questions/comments or ideas. Dave - (619) 742-8787. The trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, F horn backbores are complete. We are testing.
We now have a glove leather pouch for the Acoutic Personal Monitor™. They are beautiful. Pictures to follow.
Here are some pictures of the trombone top and the trumpet (2), cornet, flugelhorn (2) and F horn screw in backbores. We are just a few weeks away from offering them to you. Chasons Hybrid Crossover Mouthpiece
Pictures of the new Hybrid top. I just received the trombone top (very shallow 11C first designed by Al Cass in the 60's) from my manufacturer. It has a standard threaded opening so any backbore may be screwed in. Ultimately there will be trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn and French horn screw in backbores which you can use with this special top.
The top is in raw brass for testing. The Chasons Hybrid MP will be available very quickly after testing. Thanks for your patience. If you have any questions, give me a call or drop me an email. I'm still using the first prototype trombone to cornet piece and it plays great. I just told my manufacturer that yesterday I was fantisizing about playing a trumpet with a Harmon Mute and playing some Miles licks. What fun. Of course, the whole idea is this: a trombone performer being able to double on a trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn or French horn on the same gig without your chops swelling up in such a way that it hurts your embouchure. Acoustic Personal Monitor
We are now Patent Pending on our new Acoustic Personal Monitor™ and they are on sale for all brass winds. Be the first to order this remarkable device. It works! The introductory price is only $19.95. Hear your horn perfectly even in the most difficult circumstances. Every gig bag needs one. The APM™ is a medical grade tube which has a flared sound sampler clipped on the bell and extending inside the horn. The other end of the tube ends up in your ear via a triple-flange earbud. This one-size-fits-all earbud is incredible. Works great on stage as well as in your practice room.
![]() This version of the APM™ will not work on woodwinds. I'm working on a woodwind version which we hope will be as successful as the brasswind APM™. It will cost a bit more because of its complexity. Thanks for your interest. The Hybrid Crossover Mouthpiece™ is almost done. Just a few more weeks. If you are a trombone player, you will be able to double on trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn or French horn without damaging your embouchure. In a few days we will be working on short videos to provide instruction and demonstrations of our products. The patent for OcToBrass™ is now complete. The two year process is now over. The patent is in the process of being published and the patent number is on its way. The latest News
We are getting closer to the realization of the Chasons Hybrid Trombone Crossover mouthpiece. The CAD drawings show the shallow 11C rim and cup with more of a traditional exterior design. The shank or backbore will screw into the cup right at its base. There will be a backbore for a trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn and French Horn. Here is a letter from Johnny Haig Eshow. Haig was a great trombonist and band leader in Las Vegas. He had Al Cass make him a trombone to trumpet and a trombone to French Horn piece. His letter expresses how well he used this special mouthpiece. Johnny Haig died of cancer in 2007. I downloaded this letter from Steve Cass' excellent web site which is a tribute to his famous father 'Al Cass' who invented the true cross-over mouthpiece. You can find Steve's web site here.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This letter shows the real potential of the trombone cross-over mouth piece. I'm playing the trombone to cornet mouthpiece now and you are going to like it. After the trombone hybrid piece is up and running, Chasons will also produce the trumpet to small shank trombone or baritone and the trumpet to large shank euphonium/trombone. Stay tuned.
Manufacturer for the Hybrid Mouthpiece
It's looking like we have secured a U.S. manufacturer with a CNC machine and mouthpiece experience. My Al Cass trombone-to-cornet mouthpiece is being measured and the exterior redesigned as I write this. I will keep you informed of new developments.
We are now selling OcToBrass™ and getting some nice comments. Once in awhile we sell on eBay and the favorable responses are encouraging, Click here for a look. Chasons Music attended its first NAMM convention. Wow! |
