         Howie Segurson

Lead and jazz alto saxophonist Howie Segurson is probably best known for his big band arrangements, having more than 100 published original compositions and arrangements with worldwide distribution.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Howie received early recognition by performances at the Monterey Jazz Festival with his own octet. Upon graduation from S.F. State with a degree in performance and a Special Secondary Teaching Credential he moved to New York where he played with many bands including the Thad Jones/ Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra.
Returning to San Francisco for a two-year period he continued performing and writing while helping to start a jazz studies program at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Howie then moved to Los Angeles where he spent 35 years as an active player and writer on the L.A. jazz scene. He became very active in the music preparation field for motion pictures, television and recordings, and has played with numerous bands including those of Buddy Rich, Les Elgart, Toshiko Akioshi and Louie Bellson.
Now residing in Oceanside, Howie continues to perform in some of San Diego’s finest bands.
